Café Society (2016)
It is a Woody Allen movie and hence some things, as usual, are quite predictable. In this particular film, Stewart plays the role of Vonnie, a lovely secretary who is confident, charmingly attractive and friendly. Young and romantic Bobby (Jesse Eisenberg) falls in love with Vonnie and starts dreaming about their future together.
To get closer to Vonnie, he shifts to Los Angeles to get an employment form his uncle Phil (Steve Carell) who is a movie agent and with whom Vonnie is working. When Bobby and Vonnie spend more time together as the latter starts introducing him to the blinding lights of the tinsel town, he comes to know that his uncle is the secret lover of Vonnie.
Performance Overview
Kristen Stewart came out with flying colors portraying the role of Vonnie with supreme confidence erasing all memories of her past bad performances from the minds of the audience. The role was completely different from what she had played previously and required a lot of natural charm, understanding, and capacity to deliver with ease.
And the actress just managed to do that. Rather many critics believed that she was the saving grace of this film. At one time Stewart’s Vonnie was subtly seductive, young and in love whereas at another time she is torn between two men.
Her indecisiveness, passion for the lovey-dovey romance, artful frowns and smiles indicated that Stewart has indeed come a long way from her Bella Swan days.
