Certain Women (2016)
The movie tells the stories of four different women simultaneously set in the backdrop of western suburbs. All these women are undergoing their daily struggles and the film through its compact narration brings out the diversity, essence, and independence of four of them as they try to thrive and stand in an environment that is against them.
Kristen Stewart plays the role of Beth Travis, a law teacher at a rural night school. Although she belongs to a small background, she is a person with passion burning within her just waiting for the right person to reveal it. And she gets that special someone in Jamie (Lily Gladstone) who is a young ranch girl attracted to Beth’s exhilarating energy.
The two women are drawn together and find meaning to their lonely and dull life.
Performance Review
Kristen Stewart has portrayed the role of a girl with a rural background cunningly and her looks, as well as behavior, perfectly complement the character of Beth. In the movie, she is shy and timid but has that inner passion. Stewart has beautifully controlled both the emotions, of restricting her passion and slowly opening up with Jamie.
The communication between the two women without any words but only with unspoken inner monologs speaks volume about the two actresses, Lily and Kristen.
