5. Sultan (2016)
When it is a Salman Khan movie, the other actors do not have much to do. But in Sultan, Anushka Sharma holds her fort as the wrestler, Aarfa. The whole story is a classic tale of an underdog who is a wrestler living in oblivion but manages to beat all the odds in the end. Directed by Kabir Khan, Salman plays the title role of Sultan Ali Khan, a 40-year-old wrestler who has been through highs and lows.
The flashback shows younger Sultan meeting Aarfa who is an ambitious wrestler aiming for Olympic gold. She adds the passion and spice that was missing in Sultan’s life.
Performance Review
It was a big opportunity for Anushka Sharma as her character of Aarfa had two shades- one in which she is shown as a feisty wrestler and the other one a domesticated woman who gives up her career at the peak to make sure that her husband Sultan goes ahead in life.
Anushka has played both the roles of a wrestler and the wife of Sultan with aplomb displaying yet again that she is a highly versatile actress.
